Active Youth Initiative for Social Enhancement

Helped youth develop and adapt positive behaviour that would prevent HIV infection; trained and supported youth in and out of school through peer education; integrated street children into society through counselling, peer education and income generation; sensitised the community leaders on issues relating to HIV/AIDS.

Centre for youth development and social empowerment

Carried out home-based care, conducted peer education among the youth and trained youths in life skills. It has also given support to orphans and vulnerable children in and around Chiwamba in Lilongwe District.

Has carried out a number of programmes in and around Ngabu and Ndamera in Nsanje District of southern Malawi which include home care, children�s care, peer education for special groups such as bicycle taxi operators and commercial sexual cleansing agents and advocacy among chiefs to help address harmful traditional practices such as sexual cleansing.

Provided leadership to the peri-urban and rural populations in their community in responding to HIV/AIDS; trained and supported community volunteers to care for the sick and orphaned children; empowered single women and young people to prevent HIV infection through peer education and small scale business.

Has carried out a number of activities in Ntchisi District of central Malawi which include HIV prevention, care and support for the chronically ill, orphans and vulnerable children.

Foundation for Community Service  FOCUS

Spearheaded the responses to HIV and AIDS in their community through training of in and out of school youths as peer educators, support of orphans, home care, women, gender and human rights.

Lambulira Youth Organisation

Formed support groups, provided care and support for PLWHAS within the community; increased awareness of and promoted responses to HIV/AIDS in the community, through counselling, orphan care, home care and peer education for young people.

Malawi Human Rights Youth Network (MHRYN)

Has carried out advocacy work in Malawi since 2001 to foster the recognition the potential of young people in socio-economic development and human right. They have worked hard for legal reforms to reduce child abuse and child labour.

Has networked among Muslim and Christian bodies and advocated for capacity development among member organisations and improved their ability to respond to HIV and AIDS in a sustainable manner.

Malawi Network for AIDS Service Organisations

Strengthened networking and advocacy activities among AIDS service organisations throughout Malawi. This included training member organisations in project monitoring and evaluation; production of newsletters and posters to share information and ideas.

Malawi Network of religious leaders living with or Personally Affected by HIV and AIDS (MANERELA+)

Has carried out advocacy work and strengthened the pivotal role of religious leaders of various beliefs, including Muslim and Christian, to fight HIV-related stigma and discrimination, provided counselling, care and support for PLWHA.

Matindi Youth Organisation

Created awareness on HIV and AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections; contributed to behavioural change amongst youths through counselling and peer education; promoted food security and good nutrition through multiplication and distribution of fruit trees.

Mtisunge PLWHA Support Organisation

Promoted the involvement of PLWHAs in the community�s response to HIV/AIDS; facilitated the practice of safer sex, cared for and supported PLWHAs and the chronically ill, through counselling, home care and group therapy.

Nkhoma Mission Hospital

Strengthened community participation in the response to HIV/AIDS by opening day centres for orphans; facilitated the establishment of community committees that provide, care and support to those who are sick.

Phunzirani Youth Organization

Has carried out various activities in Mzimba District, which include HIV prevention and impact mitigation, care and support for orphans and vulnerable children, home care, peer education among the youth and has given vocational skills training for youth, especially older orphans.

Provided support and care PLWHAs, the chronically ill and orphans, through counselling, home visits and education. Created general community awareness on HIV and AIDS through their peer education programmes.

Restored Hope for Rural Development

Facilitated the change of cultural, religious beliefs and practices that promote the spread of STI/HIV infection; contributed to the mitigation of the impact of HIV and AIDS through peer education for youth, care and support for PLWHAs and the chronically ill.

Provided vocational training for orphans; created awareness and behavioural change through peer education; provided home care for PLWHAs and the chronically ill.
