Making resources work for communities through increased HIV and AIDS competence

SAT Publications

SAT’s communications and publications have two key purposes:

• to support increasing competence and  capacity of partner organisations and
volunteers and to guide them in their work;
• to be a medium of sharing experiences and knowledge.

In implementing communications and publications, SAT is focusing on:
• guidelines and tools for CBOs and volunteers;
• documenting results from action research for advocacy and policy influence;
• collating debates, conversations and thinking from SWW activities into the
“SHARE series” to be disseminated across the region;
• internal and external newsletters to keep SAT staff, partner organisations and
other stakeholders up to date on SAT intentions, positions and actions.

Note: Publications listed here are in PDF format. You will need Adobe Acrobat to access them.

Many of SAT publications are available in both English and Portuguese. A compilation of our publications are also available on CD-ROM.

There are four main categories of SAT publications: lesson-sharing and advocacy, skills training, SAT information, and additional resources.

Lesson-sharing and advocacy. This includes:

Community Responses - This series is for lesson sharing and is targeted at community groups and, to a lesser extent, policy makers. Each edition takes a practical programming challenge, describes how a community responded, and extracts key lessons for sharing with others

SHARE series - SHARE stands for Shaping HIV and AIDS Responses. This series aims to document practical experiences, identify lessons learned, and advocate effective strategies and policies. It seeks to inspire, inform, and improve the evolving community response to HIV and AIDS in southern Africa

SPLASH papers - SPLASH stands for Strategies, Policy and Lessons on AIDS and HIV. These brief papers highlight SAT's perspective on a key issue, based on our practical experience and ethical/philosophical viewpoint and/or research findings. They are meant to inform and motivate policy makers and SAT peers and to strengthen the association of SAT with certain stances or approaches

Skills training. This includes:

Counseling Guidelines - This is a well-established series providing community volunteers and CBO/NGO staff with practical guidance about diverse counseling situations and client needs

Training and Practice Manuals - SAT training manuals support School Without Walls training in key skills development areas, such as mainstreaming gender. Practice manuals document SAT's own systems and procedures for sharing with others

SAT information. This includes:

SAT Info - our information leaflet

Annual Update - a 6 side summary of our latest annual report

SAT-ellite - SAT's e-bulletin for its regional and international audiences
