SAT joins Global support for women's power at ICASA 2011

The Southern African AIDS Trust is attending the 2011 ICASA in Addis. As part of of its support for women empowerment, SAT has partnered with ATHENA Network and The Global Coalition on Women and AIDS (IGCWA) in raising awareness about the need to promote women's right and their meaningful participation in HIV and AIDS responses and particularly in prevention efforts under the UNAIDS getting to "ZERO" approach to the epidemic. Getting to Zero faster, smarter and better is about the following:

  • Zero New HIV infections
  •  Zero Discrimination
  • Zero AIDS related deaths – reducing TB related deaths
  • No Multiple Concurrent sexual partners – addressing sexual networks
  •  No Intergenerational sex Condom promotion and distribution
  • Accelerated Treatment is key to faster progress – Antiretroviral treatment coverage rose 20% in sub-Saharan Africa between 2009 and 2010
  •  Behaviour change programmes – increase in positive behaviour such as condom use Treatment Care and Support for people living with HIV
  • Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision
  • Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission and eliminating new HIV infections among children
  • Addressing high risk groups ( sex workers, MSM, intravenous drug users)
  • Ensuring sexual reproductive health and Rights
