Regional activities

At a regional level, SAT programmes for regional impact through dialogue / advocacy; sharing evidence and south-to-south and community-to-community learning. SAT plays a critical role in coordinating and facilitating regional thinking and influencing policies thus connecting community HIV and SRH&R responses to the regional and international dialogue and bringing lessons and experiences from these levels for an enhanced evidence based community response.

SAT is engaged in a number of regional initiatives. Key among these are:

  • Regional African AIDS NGOs (RAANGO): a network of indigenous regional organisations in eastern and southern Africa working towards sustainable civil society programming on HIV.
  • Civil Society Action Team (CSAT): the hub where SAT supports the building of capacity in civil society to participate in global fund work and in general to support the strengthening of community systems.
  • Southern & Eastern Africa Research into Cities and HIV (SEARCH): an alliance of programming organisations, researchers and research institutions and UN agencies working to integrate knowledge and programme enhancers for responding to HIV into local, national and regional HIV responses.
  • Regional forum for the UN Political Declaration: an Eastern and Southern African forum of regional civil society organisations, UN agencies and international cooperating partners, collaborating to accelerate domestication, resourcing and implementation of the UN political declaration targets.
